Meet the Team
Bringing a Human Touch to Your Alterations
These people are here to make your clothes look just like you imagined.
For more than 20 years, our team has been an extension of our family. Each of us take pride in excelling at what we do, because we love nothing more than seeing you look like a million bucks in your newly altered clothes. So even though you deal with our fitting stylists, our tailors will often pop out from the alterations floor to see how the garment looks at your final fitting.
Our Leadership Team
Clare grew up around clothes, but took a professional detour to pharmacy before taking over her mother’s clothing alterations service in 2011. She is one of those people who you instantly feel at ease talking to and asking for an honest opinion.
Clare has grown the studio into the largest independent alterations tailor in Queensland, nurturing our tailors to refine their skills along the way. She has been awarded the Lord Mayor’s Multicultural Young Business Person award, the Small Business Champion Award in Fashion, and most recently received a double nomination in the Lord Mayor’s Business Awards for Innovation and Young Business Person. She also drives our charity work, even learning to dance to raise money at Dancing CEOs.
Among all that, she found time to write the ultimate manual on suits, The Suit Book (check it out here).
General Manager and Fitting Stylist
The first thing you notice about Madeline is her infectious laughter. After years in customer service, Madeline found her home at The Fitting Room, where she gets to combine her love of fashion, styling and dishing out compliments.
You can instantly tell Madeline has your best interests at heart, because her good nature beams like a ray of sunshine. After just one session with her, you feel like you have been friends forever. Outside of work, you will find Madeline at the gym lifting weights (but never hogging the equipment, mind you – this lady knows how to follow etiquette in all situations).
Sheena joined us from PQ Fine Alterations, where she spent 7 years mastering womenswear and bridal. She worked with Clare over this time to hone her high-end fitting skills, before joining us when our studios merged. Sheena’s customers trust her advice, because she is incredible at diagnosing the best way to fix a poorly fitting garment, and her pinning accuracy is a true talent.
When lunchtime rolls around, Sheena’s lunches are the envy of everyone in the studio thanks to her love of cooking. Our tailors love her as much as her customers, because she is always the first to put her hand up for after-work drinks and team social activities.
Head of Operations
Julia is our fixer-upper. You’ve probably seen her running around the city with our delivery trolley, always smiling no matter how frantic the situation may be. She’s the one who will dash out to source a zipper or button for an emergency repair, and our tailors couldn’t function without her supply of snacks and coffee.
Without her, our well-oiled engine would screech to a halt. After a day of problem solving, Julia nurtures her smarts and creativity by ‘geeking out’ playing Dungeons & Dragons and painting miniature figures.
Caroline comes from an extensive fashion background across both mens and womenswear. After working with Clare and The Fitting Room as a customer for many years, she found her home here as a dedicated Brand Manager. She loves to work with customers to educate them on the art of style and dressing.
On her days off you will find her spending time with her gorgeous Golden Samoyed puppy, Daisy.
Our Tailoring Team
We say you should never trust a tailor who doesn’t like French Champagne. With an appreciation for all the finer things in life (including Champagne), our tailors are an easy-going bunch who thrive on a technical challenge. They love it when you bring us a crazy patterned suit, a mending problem or sentimental piece.
Our most accomplished tailors have 30 years of experience, and they still look for ways to improve their craft – that’s because great tailoring is about more than using a sewing machine. It is about understanding changes in style, working with new fabrics and keeping a focused mind for detailed garments.
The specialisations in this team include bridal, leather, delicate fabrics, suits and invisible mending. Their fussiness over details like the placement of a button gives you confidence your clothes are in safe hands.
